TASTING EVENT - Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou 300th Anniversary - Auckland 30/03/21

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, Saint-Julien.

300th Anniversary Celebration Tasting.

In association with Château Ducru-Beaucaillou (famed Saint-Julien second growth), famille Eugène Borie and Peter Maude Fine Wines, we would like to invite you to taste through a fascinating vertical of Ducru-Beaucaillou's wines - airfreighted directly from the chateau to celebrate 300 years of winemaking since their first vintage in 1720.

Guiding you through the tasting will be Michael Brajkovich MW of Kumeu River, who himself brings over 40 years experience in the business, including vintages in Bordeaux.

The wines will be accompanied by a sit-down dinner in the Princes Street Dining Room.
The vintage vertical to include;

Le Petit Ducru 2018
La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou  2018

Ducru-Beaucaillou. The name may seem bizarre, but it has its own logic. The "beaux cailloux" are the smooth, round, flat, unusually large pebbles that lie beneath the mature (over fifty years in age) and numerous (ten thousand per hectare) roots of the vineyard. Ducru is the name of the family that acquired an estate reputed to be nothing but arid, stony ground. Nevertheless, the Ducrus decided to plant a vineyard on it. Since then, all the successors have worked hard to extract from the depths of this inhospitable soil the quintessence of a great Médoc wine. And they have succeeded, approaching an archetypal level of quality and earning a reputation as the "most accomplished of all Bordeaux wines."
