Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron
Vosne-Romanée, Côtes-de-Nuîts, Bourgogne, France
Wines of great depth, refinement and elegance.
Domaine J.J. Confuron is today run by Alain and Sophie Meunier who are the daughter and son-in-law of Jean-Jacques Confuron. The couple assumed control in 1988 and from 1991 have farmed the Estate organically.
The domaine has some very old vines among the 12 crus vinified from vineyards that total eight hectares. Notably, their Romanee-St-Vivant vines were planted in 1929 and the holdings around the village of Chambolle-Musigny are also very old. The origins of the domaine lie with the Noellat estate in Vosne-Romanée with the vines having passed down through the female side for several generations.
In addition to the grand crus of Clos-de-Vougeot and Romanee-St-Vivant, they produce premier cru Nuits-St-Georges from Chabouefs and Boudots and a third from Chambolle-Musigny. A new winery was constructed in the late eighties and since then they have grown hugely in reputation and quality. Yields are very low; the grapes are mostly destemmed, and vinification is traditional. Fifty percent of new oak is used (70-80% for the topthree) and the wines are of the highest order.
