Avize, Champagne, France
“Anselme Selosse’s Champagnes are coveted the world over for their unique, bold personalities.” Antonio Galloni, Vinous.
These French wines are of great personality: intensely flavourful with tiny bubbles that aren’t overly aggressive on the palate... yet rich and elegant like agreat white Burgundy. . .
Anselme Selosse has been described as ‘The King of Bubbles’ and is well known for his dynamic achievements and charisma in the world of Champagne and French wine. His attention to detail is famous and he makes exquisite and rare cuvées from some of the lowest yielding vines in Champagne. The 15 hectares of vines are farmed biodynamically. Founded by Jacques Selosse in 1950, their first vintage was bottled in 1960.
Anselme Selosse took over from his father Jacques in 1980 after studying at the Lycée viticole de Beaune. He was one of the first winemakers toapply the winemaking techniques of white Burgundy to Champagne; unlike other producers he ferments and ages the wine in oak, and with the intensity of the fruit from low yields resulting in a highly complex and beautifully balanced style. In 1994 Anselme was named best French Winemaker by Gault Millau.
All the wines are blanc de blanc (Chardonnay) except for the Champagne Rosé; sourced from grand cru vineyards and fully dry (Brut).
