The Côte de Nuits is a sub-region of Burgundy known for producing some of the world's most prestigious Pinot Noir wines, such as those from the villages of Musigny (think Comte George de Vogüé), Gevrey-Chambertin (such as Dom. Armand Rousseau) and Vosne-Romanée (like Dom. Hudelot-Noëllat). The vines of the Côte de Nuits stretch over 20km from north to south. This area is the centre for the region’s Grands Crus.

The region's unique terroir, with its limestone and clay soils, lends elegance, finesse, and mineral-driven character, that sets these wines apart from other high quality French Pinot Noirs. The sub-region's cooler continental climate is also ideal for growing Pinot Noir – slowly ripening the grapes to develop complexity.
Like everywhere in France, Côte de Nuits producers observe Burgundy's strict viticultural and winemaking practices as specified by the high demands of the appelation: hand-harvesting, minimal intervention in the cellar, picking at the correct time and an approach that expresses each vineyard's nuance through the wine.
Whether you're a lifelong enthusiast or just starting to explore the world of French wines, Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir is definitely worth investigating. Mainly reputed for its red wines, the region also produces a select few whites and are highly sought-after around the world and here in New Zealand.
