Vosne-Romanée, Cote-de-Nuits, Bourgogne, France
“We are very happy to be renewing an association with these great vineyard/climate holdings.” Peter Maude
Many of you may remember the great domaine René Engel. Unfortunately, Phillipe Engel winemaker and grandson of founder René, died in 2005 and there was really no one in the family able to take over, so the Domaine was sold. The purchaser, in 2006, was François Pinault, owner of Château Latour - who renamed the property Domaine d’Eugenie. Under the management of Frederic Engerer, they have revamped the old winery and also invested in another restoration - Clos des Tart - so now a fully equipped, state of-the-art winery.
The plots cover a total planted surface area of 4.51 ha (11.14 acres) and are located in the villages of Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot, Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault. The Estate produces wine from 9 appellations.
An environmentally friendly approach is taken in all aspects of work in the vineyard. Growing techniques and ploughing the soil are given priority. No form of chemical weed control is used; the protection of the environment and the balance of the vines are always our priorities. The vineyards have farmed organically since 2011 and biodynamic methods are employed too.
The 2020 harvest will also be certified biodynamic. Source: domaine-eugenie.com
