"Quite simply, Samuel Billaud is one of the best producers in Chablis at the moment. If you have not discovered the wines, what are you waiting for?" Neal Martin, Vinous.
Samuel Billaud is a fourth generation winemaker who started in the family domaine - Billaud-Simon in 1985 - until he decided to set up on his own in 2009. Samuel has been slowly increasing his holdings. He began utilising bought in grapes, then in August 2014 Domaine Billaud-Simon was sold to Faiveley - from the sale of which Samuel inherited one sixth of the family vineyard holdings - 4.2 hectares of vineyards in total. He also built himself a new state-of-the-art winery. So there is no doubt that these are wines to watch out for. As Neal Martin also said - “We should see him...at the top of Chablis producers alongside...Raveneau and Vincent Dauvissat.”
