2024, Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron, NUITS-SAINT-GEORGES, 1er Cru, 'Les Chaboeufs'

$232

Situated next to Vaucrains - just above Les Cailles.

A glowing purple. The fruit on the nose is a bit more reserved, though clearly with adequate density. Plenty of muscle here, with a good weight of fruit though not quite so dense all the way through, finishing with some tannins, as expected. Drink from 2029-2035.

The 2024 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaboeufs 1er Cru came away relatively unscathed this vintage thanks to greater exposure, cropped around 24hl/ha. This is well-defined on the nose with lifted redcurrant and raspberry scents, delineated and focused though never powerful. The palate has a sorbet-like freshness on the entry with a tang of blood orange that infuses the red fruit, quite spicy with bay leaf and cinnamon towards the finish. Thoroughly enjoyable, savour over the next decade.

A distinctly earthy and brooding nose of dark raspberry, plum and a whiff of the sauvage is trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is good volume, though limited density, to the attractively textured flavours that display focused power on the firmer and more compact finale that offers both good depth and persistence. As is always the case, this is going to require at least a few years of patience before it will drink well.
