Peter Maude Fine Wines
2024, Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron, NUITS-SAINT-GEORGES, 1er Cru, 'Aux Boudots'
More ruby than purple. A fresher raspberry fruit on the nose, medium ripeness, red fruit energy, as much acidity as tannin the balance, the fruit driving on well to a long finish. The more successful of the two this year. Two barrels made, one of them new so the oak has an effect while the wine is young. Drink from 2030-2036.

There are just two barrels of the 2024 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Boudots 1er Cru. Nevertheless, I appreciate the depth on the nose, displaying slightly more complexity and nuance than the Chaboeufs. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. Nicely balanced, precise with a touch of black pepper and bay leaf on the finish, this is a refined Boudots that should drink well after just a couple of years in bottle.

A slightly spicier nose combines notes of both red and dark fruit with hints of earth and discreet wood influence. The sleek and precise flavours are again not especially concentrated but I like the energy and generous texture, all wrapped in a dusty and moderately austere finale.
