2024, Domaine de la Vougeraie, GEVREY-CHAMBERTIN, 'Les Evocelles'
$136.85 inc. GST
A steep, stony, upper hillside vineyard where Vougeraie uses horses rather than a tractor to plough. This was the first parcel of vines that Jean Claude Boisset bought at the start of his wine career in the 1960s.
The 2024 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles has more vigour and lift on the nose [compared to La Justice], with vivid red cherry and raspberry fruit that is simple but delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy but fluid tannins, harmonious bright acidity and fine tension. Good cohesion on the finish, this is a very decent no-frills Les Evocelles to enjoy over the next 12 to 15 years.

Airy and cool aromas of red currant, plum and more subtle earth nuances. The supple and agreeably textured, though again not particularly dense, flavours possess a super-sleek mouthfeel while exhibiting solid depth and persistence on the mineral-driven finale. This is very good for its level and worth a look. Outstanding.

A pretty floral nose, roses in the spring, with a little density behind. Tightly wound on the palate, raspberry and redcurrant, with fair length. Drink from 2028-2033.
