From a substantial holding of .90 ha that is situated in Rugiens Haut but touches Rugiens Bas.

30% whole bunch vinification, 20% new wood. A medium deep purple. The nose is immediately compelling with the notes of blood orange mixing in with the red berries. Rugiens=red soil=iron oxide = blood orange. This is an exceptionally complete wine, the tannins being fully folded in to the beguiling fruit. Very nicely done. Very persistent. Drink from 2033-2038.

The 2023 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru includes 30% whole bunch with 20% new oak. This has an intense bouquet, actually quite Volnay in style with blood orange infusing the black cherry and raspberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a delicately poised entry and fine tannins. Certainly a more elegantly styled Pommard, this has a refined, silky-smooth finish and will probably drink earlier than Clerget's Volnays.
91-93 Neal Martin.

A cool, elegant and perfumed nose speaks of red berries, spice, exotic tea and an interesting hint of dried orange peel. The racy, detailed and equally intensely mineral-driven flavours display impressive power and first-class length on the youthfully austere, balanced and dusty finale. Excellent development potential. Sweet Spot Outstanding.
