Grand Maupertuis section, with the Clerget plot very close to DRC Grands Echezeaux.

Thibaud added extra lees for the ageing, so the Clos Vougeot is a fraction more reduced, though also well nourished. Bright purple, quite a lot happening on the nose, the lees have filled out the mouth but leave a slight earthiness, yet there is significant substance to develop from here. Drink from 2033-2040.

The 2023 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is very perfumed and floral on the nose, with fine delineation, red berry fruit and scents of briar and crushed limestone. The palate is medium-bodied and quite saline with slightly chalky tannins, as darker/blacker fruit emerge toward the finish. Superior to the 2022 in my opinion, this is a sophisticated Clos de Vougeot.

Here too moderate wood is present on the earthier red currant, cherry and a whiff of the sauvage. There is fine volume and richness to the medium-bodied and solidly powerful flavours that exhibit very fine length on the youthfully austere and balanced finale. This too possesses excellent development potential.
