This is a brilliant wine in the constellation of top Vosne-Romanée/Flagey-Echézeaux grands crus. With 1.44 hectares Mongeard-Mugneret is the second largest owner.

Deeper, more blackened-ruby colour. Spicy, smokey cherry plum nose. Very expressive. Smooth soft red cherries. More dense mid-palate. A little soft bitterness in the finish. Feel the concentration and power. Smooth tannins with lingering finish and notes of sous-bois.

With 1.44 hectares this domaine is the second largest owner - 'Making a massive wine that needs the oak to sculpt the colossus!'. More direct, dark fruit and with finesse too. In the mouth the barrel is more overt than the Echézeaux but what fine texture blended with its obvious concentration. Here's a width of flavour that's sustained but never explosive - concentrated but with super finesse - that's a super wine, potentially a great one. Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report.
