Peter Maude Fine Wines
2023, Domaine Henri Gouges, NUITS-SAINT-GEORGES, 1er Cru, 'Les Chaignots'
$140.30 inc. GST
From their only vineyard on the Vosne-Romanée side of Nuits - which sits above Aux Murgers.
Bottled in July. A bright ruby purple. The bouquet has a fine ripeness to the fruit, less heady than Chaines Carteaux. From a bright fresh red fruit at the front of the palate to something a little richer and darker behind, along with a peppery finish. Fine length, this is accessible but should also age quite well. Drink from 2029-2034.

A more elegant and definitely spicier nose freely offers up ripe and fresh aromas of raspberry, black cherry and exotic tea. There is a lovely sense of volume and punch to the sleek, plump, round and delicious medium-bodied flavours that possess a velvety texture that contrasts mildly with the firm and youthfully austere finale. This is pretty much textbook Chaignots that should repay mid-term keeping. Outstanding.

A more pear-shaped nose - wide at the bottom, narrower at the top. This is a beauty - fluid, energetic, a modest dryness but no grain from the tannin. I just love the energy here - what an excellent wine - long too!
