Peter Maude Fine Wines

2023, Domaine Henri Gouges, NUITS-SAINT-GEORGES, 1er Cru, 'La Perriere', Blanc

$208

Fine lemon and lime colour. Attractive ripeness on the nose, pears and plums, fruit more juicy than fleshy, tightening up at the back of the palate to an almost austere limestone finish, nonetheless surrounded by notions of riper fruit. It works out to be a very attractively balanced wine which can be approached young. Drink from 2027-2031.

Smoky aromas include those of citrus confit, white orchard fruit, especially pear, and a whiff of fennel. The rich, generously proportioned and supple flavours conclude in a clean and dry though not austere finale. This is already quite forward and could easily be enjoyed basically upon release.

Lovely energy in this. Extra fluidity on the tongue – a wine that blends its citrus and minerals over the palate – again clarity is the word I reach for. Extra in all directions… Beautiful wine!
