Peter Maude Fine Wines
2023, Domaine d'Eugénie, CLOS-VOUGEOT, Grand Cru
$630.20 inc. GST
From a 1.37 ha parcel of 60+ year old vines situated close to the Château.
The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru comprises 22 barrels this year. Blended with 80% whole bunch, this takes time to unfold on the nose. Dark berry fruit, tea leaves and light bergamot scents are all delivered with fine delineation, albeit without the power of the Grands Echézeaux. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky opening and fine acidity. Very elegant and almost understated in style, this gently fans out toward the finish without making too much of a fuss. 2027 - 2045

Pretty and beautifully layered aromas include those of dark currant, violet and plenty of newly turned earth nuances. The rich, caressing and delicious middle weight flavours also possess a relatively sophisticated mouthfeel thanks mainly to the fine-grained tannins shaping the youthfully austere, firm, compact and sneaky long finish that is also very well-balanced.
92-94 Allen Meadows, Burghound.
80% whole bunch vinification with 15 new barrels out of 22 and a Clayver. A deepish central core with lighter rim. Like the Grands Echezeaux, the nose begins in backward fashion, and does not show the whole bunch so much. There is a wonderful mouthful of dark fruit though, black cherry, dark raspberry, a little bit of pepper, this is fuller bodied without losing sensuality. Drink from 2033-2043. Tasted Nov 2024.
