Last picked, so needed a lot of sorting. A dark and brooding purple, with dark cherry, definitely a blacker style of fruit. This is Pernand with an Aloxe style, saved by a touch of Savigny elegance, especially towards the back. 14% but with a little freshness to finish. In bottle. Drink from 2027 - 2032. *** 88 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
Marvellous, ripe plum fruit with hints of rosemary, earth and peppery spice. The texture is fresh and lively, with a bit more zest but less heft than the Ille des Vergelesses. The 1.33ha parcel faces east, and the vines are planted in thin soils directly over the limestone bedrock. Claude de Nicolay characterises it as 'the fruit of Savigny, the earth of Aloxe, and the spice of Pernand.' 94 Charles Curtis MW.
The 2023 Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses 1er Cru comes from 1.2 hectares just next to the road leading up to Pernand village. It offers simple scents of cranberry, raspberry and brown spice. This is quite open. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, grainy tannins and a soft landing on the finish. The 2023 is one for early-drinking. 88-90 Neal Martin.
