Picked on 7th September, not yet in bottle. A central dark purple with more of a ruby rim. Quite a different bouquet because the fruit has a wilder side, wood strawberries, blueberries, than the usual berry fruits. Claude loves this wine! The stems give their little brambly note as well. A touch of bramble jelly on the palate but the structure holds this all well together. 13.8% with a long supple finish, alongside adequate tannins. Drink from 2030-2037. **** 92-95 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.

A wine of admirable density and weight, the 2023 Corton Bressandes from Chandon de Briailles boasts a ripe mulberry fruit with an edge of black tea and minerals. The texture is dense and firm, and the fresh acidity, firm tannins and abundant extract carry this to a lingering finish. The grapes are from 1.5ha that are split between the Ladoix and Aloxe; the latter has more stony soil, while the former has more iron-rich clay. This should open in five to seven years and drink for another 30. 94 Charles Curtis MW.

The 2023 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru is a blend of four different parcels with different soil profiles. Light but fresh, it has an open and fresh bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry and soft briar notes. The palate is well defined and lively, with crisp acidity and gentle grip. There is wonderful purity of fruit, and the stems here impart just the right amount of black pepperiness. If you have a penchant for a more classical style of Burgundy, this is right up your street. 92-94 Neal Martin.

The silkiest width of perfume here - what a great invitation. Super scale, framed with more tannin but no extra dryness. Bill Nanson.
