A wonderfully broad-ranging nose reflects plenty of floral influences along with a lovely array of spice elements on the airy and cool mix of both red and dark berries. The equally cool, pure and relatively dense medium weight flavours coat the palate with sap while displaying impressive depth and persistence on the very firm, compact and unapologetically built-to-age finale. Excellent provided that you have the patience to cellar this for at least a decade. Sweet spot outstanding. 92-95 Burghound.
Mid crimson. Super sensual straight away on the nose. Immediate natural class here, though not the most concentrated Clos St-Jacques. Once again, they seem to have hit the cusp of red and black. A fine long graceful finish. Drink from 2030-2038. **** 94-97 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques offers up aromas of wild berries and plums mingled with orange zest, rose petals and violets. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and lively, with a fleshy core of fruit and sweet structuring tannins, it's another terrific cuvée from this re-energised domaine. 93-95 William Kelley, Wine Advocate.
The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru offers an extremely focused and detailed bouquet with vibrant, mineral-inflected redcurrant and strawberry fruit. The medium-bodied palate features ripe dark cherry and strawberry on the entry, with a hint of vanilla from the oak. It finishes quite linear in style, as if it's holding something back for later. This is one for the patient among you. 94-96 Neal Martin.
