2023, Domaine Blain-Gagnard, VOLNAY, 1er Cru, 'Pitures'

Pitures is high up on the slope with lots of stones on a limestone base - next to D'Angerville's Clos des Ducs. 

There is both good verve and freshness to the sleek and precise, though not particularly dense, flavours that also conclude in a moderately austere and firm finale. 2031+

An airy width vs the depth of the previous. This has a more perfumed flavour profile, with more chewy intensity in this finish. That’s a good, almost sparkly and attractive flavour. Finishes with complexity.

Mid-ruby garnet colour. Very pretty nose of rose, violets - a touch of chalk. Elegant, charming and supple. Floral & mineral on the palate. Finishes long. One to keep.
