Second vintage from a family exchange, the vines are located in the Musigni (at the top just below Musigny) and Garenne sectors.

Mathias Parent and his sister Caroline have produced a marvellous, complex Clos de Vougeot. Although the colour is deceptively light, there are pronounced aromas of blackberry fruit accented with peony, peppery spice, and a savoury, smoky underpinning. The texture is structured and firm, but not overly so, and the wine lingers on the palate with gentle persistence. The grapes are from parcels in Musigni and La Garenne that formerly belonged to Gros Frère et Soeur – the family has traded some vineyards between themselves to prepare for the next generation; previous vintages here were from purchased fruit.

More crimson than ruby. A little bit of wood showing alongside the more robust darker fruit. Rounded and ripe cherries now take over the middle ground before a satisfying and structured finish which perseveres very nicely. Drink from 2032-2038.
*** 92-95 Jasper Morris MW.

The cool, airy and pretty nose combines notes of the essence of red berries with those of floral, earth and leather wisps. There is both good volume and richness to the acceptably concentrated flavours that are supported by relatively fine-grained tannins on the moderately austere, complex, firm and balanced finale. This should age effortlessly over a decade plus.
