80% whole bunch vinification with 5 new barrels out of the 7 produced. A dark bright rich deep colour. The bouquet is much more generous than the Echezeaux, deeper than the Brûlées, but does it take us to another level? While offering similar floral qualities, the Grands Echezeaux seems readier than expected. However there is another level still to be discovered, as the density takes over at the back of the palate, bringing a complex mix of fruit including some positive savoury notes, and exceptional length. Drink from 2032 - 2045. **** 95-98 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
The 2022 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru also includes 8-% whole bunches this year and the stems here are seamlessly integrated into the black fruit. Fine mineralité and focus, touches of flint emerging with time, a pinch of iris flower. On the second tasting, a month later, the aromatics come across more nuanced and complex. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit, crushed stone and a hint of liquorice in the background. Quite a "serious" Grands Echézeaux, the second tasting a month after the first reveals more Pinoté and pixelation on the finish, also the tannins less obdurate and more filigree. It will require several years in bottle but it is a well-crafted Grands Echézeaux. 95-97 Neal Martin, Vinous.
A panoply of floral influences is present on the pure and ultra-fresh nose of various red berries, clove, hoisin, violet and exotic tea. There is more size, weight and richness to the more powerful if less refined broad-shouldered flavours that conclude in a compact, serious and built-to-age finale where a touch of menthol character slowly emerges. 92-94 Burghound.
The 2022 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums, violets, exotic spices and orange zest. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a deep core of almost unctuous fruit that largely conceals a serious structuring chassis, it concludes with a long, saline finish. 93-95 William Kelley, Wine Advocate.
