2021, La Chablisienne, CHABLIS, 1er Cru, 'Vaulorent'
The 2021 Chablis Vaulorent 1er Cru has crisp crushed limestone and light apple scents blossoming on the nose. The palate is well-balanced with a taut line of acidity and hints of marzipan and nougat in the background, though it retains some cohesion and finishes seductively smooth. Drink over the next 5-8 years. 88 Neal Martin, Vinous (2023).
Here the natural elegance of Vaulorent is on display with its array of citrus and floral-suffused aromas that possess reasonably good Chablis character. There is fine volume and solid richness to the less mineral-driven flavours that conclude in a dry and youthfully austere finish that is presently a bit tangy. I suspect that the tanginess will smooth out with a few years of age though it would be fair to observe that the balance isn't perfect today. 89-22 Burghound (2022).
