2021, Domaine E. Guigal, CÔTE-RÔTIE, 'La Landonne'
Smoky bacon, roasted coffee beans, cedarwood and ripe blackberry set the stage for the 2021 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne, with pencil shavings and dark plum widening the aromatic frame. Built like a skyscraper, the 2021 wraps its power around a firm tannic spine, yet those tannins remain notably smooth. Savoury and concentrated, this is a delicious La Landonne with assured ageing potential. 95 Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous (2026)
Cask sample. Smoky whole-bunch character on the nose with grilled meat, clove, savoury notes and smoke. A grippy palate with firm, robust, taut tannins. A smoky and meaty palate as well. Graphite, damp earth and showing that really savoury side. Good concentration as well throughout and underpinned by the telling acidity of the vintage. 18 Alistair Cooper MW, jancisrobinson.com (2022)
