Peter Maude Fine Wines
2019, Les Champs Libres, BORDEAUX Blanc (Ch. Lafleur), Magnum (1500ml)
Bordeaux Blanc: 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
The 2019 Les Champs Libres conveys composure on the nose, touches of pear, Granny Smith and menthol, fine cohesion, quite flattering at this early stage. The palate is well-balanced with a touch of reduction on the entry, fine acidity, a lot of extract here with white peach and apricot towards its toasty, sesame-tinged finish. Wonderful. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. 93 Neal Martin, Vinous (2023).
The 2019 Champs Libres is absolutely compelling. Creamy and textured, the 2019 opens beautifully to reveal hints of lemon confit, almond, dried flowers and a touch of oak. I especially admire the way the Champs Libres is deep and textured, but not at all heavy. What a gorgeous wine it is. 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous (2022).
