Peter Maude Fine Wines

2021, Maison Jean-Claude Boisset, BEAUNE, 1er Cru, 'Les Grèves'

$120

The 30-hectare "Les Grèves" vineyard is assuredly one of Beaune's best-known Premiers Crus. Seen from above, it forms a square block and occupies the entire length of the gentle, east-facing slope. 70 to 80 year old vines.

2021. A complex vintage! It is both a winegrower and winemaker's vintage.  Probably one of the smallest vintages ever in Burgundy . It offers a very nice and subtle representation of each terroir and its expression, with fruity, freshness and great finesse wines.

With a nice ruby colour, this wine reveals intense aromas of morello cherries, cherry pits, and some notes of wild flowers. The palate is generous, fruity with a lot of substance and a slight sweetness. Domaine notes.

Cask sample. More obviously aromatic than the Chambolle Charmes 2021. Lots of energy. Solid and savoury and embryonic. Nice graininess of tannins. 17/20 Jancis Robinson
