2020, Château Teyssier, SAINT-ÉMILION Grand Cru

$68

Bordeaux Blend: Merlot, Cabernet Franc.

The 2020 Teyssier offers up aromas of plums, cherries and petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample palate that concludes with a slightly drying finish, perhaps an artifact of the growing season's challenges. 88 William Kelley, Wine Advocate.

The 2020 Teyssier is composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The Merlot was picked from September 15th to October 1st, and the Cabernet Franc from September 30th to October 8th. It has an alcohol of 13.9% and a pH of 3.5. It is aging in French oak barrels, 25% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with exuberant notes of baked red and black plums, blackberry preserves and mulberries, plus touches of hoisin, licorice and lilacs. The medium-bodied palate delivers a great intensity of black fruits with an approachable, soft texture and a racy line, finishing refreshing. 89-91 Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate.

Teyssier is always a consistent choice in St-Emilion, although it shows a few issues of the vintage, as there are a lot of firm tannins to work through to get to the ripe fruit, with touches of fig and prune overlaying fresher raspberry notes. Concentrated, inky, serious, with coffee edging, no trace of bitterness though and this is still a pleasurable solid choice. 3.5pH. Yields down at 20hl/ha because of mildew. Harvest from September 15 to October 8. 25% MLF in new oak. 60ha vineyard. 89 Jane Anson, Decanter.
