Peter Maude Fine Wines
2023, Domaine Bruno Clavelier, CORTON, 'Le Rognet', Grand Cru
Soft wood and menthol influences are present on the nose of poached plum, the sauvage and an abundance of floral elements. There is excellent volume and solid concentration if not nearly the same refinement to the bigger-bodied and more powerful flavours that conclude in a sappy, palate coating and strikingly long well-balanced finale. This is however a wine that's going to need extended keeping so buy it with that firmly in mind. Sweet Spot. 92-95 Burghound.
Ruby purple in colour with a noble bouquet that does speak grand cru. A fine smooth texture nevertheless with moments of relief as the fruit impresses itself. Plenty of layers of dark red satiny fruit, plus some fine gravelly tannins. Very complete, absolutely stands up. Two thirds ancient vines, one third 50-year-old, plus the 1999 replacements of the vines which were vandalised in 1999. The soil is Oxfordien Digonella and some marl. Drink from 2030 - 2038. ***** (5 stars) 94-96 Jasper.
