2020, Domaine Ponsot, CHAPELLE-CHAMBERTIN Grand Cru

$858

The 2020 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has quite a bold bouquet with blackberries, raspberry coulis, Clementine and just a soupçon of marmalade. Lovely definition and beautifully integrated oak. The palate is very pliant on the entry with a silky smooth texture, very harmonious with an almost Vosne-like sensuality on the finish. This cuvée now sees less extraction at lower temperatures and I believe this has certainly meliorated this wine. 94-96 Neal Martin.

Purple colour with density through the middle. Ripe and deep. There is a bundle of fruit on the nose too, though it is not clear yet where this is heading yet. Somehow I don't expect Chapelle to be so fruit forward. A redcurrant undercurrent behind. *** 92-95 Jasper Morris MW.

An exuberantly fresh nose freely offers up its aromas of red currant, black cherry, violet and pretty spice wisps. The super-sleek, intense and gorgeously textured larger-scaled flavours also possess an abundance of dry extract that beautifully buffers the equally firm tannic spine shaping the moderately austere and hugely long finale. This is terrific though like the Clos de Vougeot, it's built for the long-term. 93-95 Burghound.
