The 2024 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru includes 20% whole bunch and 20% new oak. This has a delectable, slightly minty bouquet that combines beautifully with the delineated red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, the stems here deftly used and imparting a subtle pepperiness that comes through more strongly on the finish. Fine structure and persistency, though not powerful per se, this is a well-made Volnay.
91-93 Neal Martin.

Slightly more depth to the ruby colour with a solid weight of raspberry and strawberry fruit. There is plenty of fruit at the front while more arrives behind, very satisfying even before the white pepper liveliness of the finish. Very persistent and classily handled fruit. Drink from 2030-2035.
**** 91-93 Jasper Morris MW.

Pretty floral and spice nuances add breadth to the layered red cherry and plum scents that are laced with plenty of earth. Somewhat unexpectedly, this is actually sleeker, if not quite as dense, as the Carelle with fine length on the slightly more structured finale. A Santenots of surprising finesse.
