Domaine Nicolas Rossignol
Beaune, Cote de Beaune, Bourgogne, France.
Nicolas Rossignol is one of Burgundy's new generation of superstar winemakers.
His start came in his family's domaine (Rossignol-Jeanniard) in 1994 and by 1997 he had already started his own estate with three hectares of vineslocated in the villages of Volnay, Pommard, Corton and Aloxe-Pernand. At the same time, he continued making the family wines.
Today he has some 20 hectares under his control. By 2004 he was farming biodynamically and in 2008 went to extended ageing (two years instead of one) and moved to larger casks of 600 litre capacity. He does everything manually using traditional techniques.
All the wines he makes are now bottled under his own name. He makes 30 different crus which includes 20 premier crus. Surprisingly, Nicolas Rossignol when in his teens didn't want to be a winemaker but his father talked him into trying it for a year. He hasn't looked back, is always strivingfor perfection, and it's fair to say his stunning wines have elevated his reputation to the world stage of wine.
