Peter Maude Fine Wines
2023, Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron, CLOS VOUGEOT, Grand Cru
From 40+ year old vines situated at the very top of the hill directly by the Château.
Still in barrel, unracked. Medium purple in colour. Slightly more dour on the nose, as befits Clos Vougeot, with a rugged structure behind the dark fruit which is livened up by some fresher raspberry flavours. The tannins are ripe, there is enough acidity, so this is en route to becoming a fine and relatively typical Clos de Vougeot. Drink from 2032-2038.

The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru exhibits impressive intensity on the nose, featuring finely delineated blackberry, liquorice and brown spice aromas with a subtle leather backdrop. It is medium-bodied with a ripe entry on the palate, teetering on the edge of overripeness. The finish offers plenty of liquorice and black pepper notes.
91-93 Neal Martin.
50% new oak. Deep ruby colour. Nose somewhat hidden - little spicy, a little floral, a little plum. Very nice on the attack, savoury, mineral with a touch of white pepper and a spicy finish.
