Peter Maude Fine Wines
2023, Domaine Chandon de Briailles, CORTON, Grand Cru, Blanc
The Corton has been in barrel rather than foudre. Two thirds derives from Bressandes, one third Chaumes et Voierosse, whence comes the more mineral aspect. Mid lemon yellow. A spicy form of reduction here. The fruit swells through the middle of the palate, racy citrus notes on top of a full panoply of orchard fruit. The reductive character, giving some bacon fat, need to calm down so that it just becomes a complexifying factor. Claude says “I find the middle of the mouth very Bressandes, the finish Chaumes”. Certainly, there is a tingling finish, with the reduction now cleaned up. **** 92-95 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy (2025).
