2023, Domaine Henri Gouges, NUITS-SAINT-GEORGES, 1er Cru, 'Les Pruliers'

Rich purple. Very oaky on the nose, but note that this is still in wood, unracked. Sample taken from all barrels. Sturdy stuff, very Nuits-St-Georges with plums and a little suggestion of a peachier aspect, gourmand and juicy, yet with a fine clean structure at the back. I like this more and more as it progresses across the palate. Drink from 2030-2037.

Liqueur-like aromas of plum, menthol, dark pinot fruit and a whiff of the sauvage give way to generous and attractively textured, if not especially concentrated, middle weight flavours that are at once seductive yet mildly rustic on the sneaky long and nicely balanced finish. This too should age well yet drink reasonably well young.
90-92 Burghound.

A rounder nose - again of depth. Large in scale, sinuous but with an edge of cushion too. I love the texture here – velvet and the finish remains very textural. This could be a great one!!
