Peter Maude Fine Wines
2022, Domaine de Villaine, RULLY, 1er Cru, 'Les Margotés', BIO
Domaine notes: We really sense the aromatic freshness of the Chardonnay coming from its acidity and the minerality from its mainly mineral terroir. All nurtured by oak notes mainly from foudres in which this wine was vinified and matured. The Margoté plot is located to the South of the Rully appellation. This area is cold and windy. We can almost smell the wine while tasting this wine. The palate is powerful with a round and precise texture full of contained energy. The mineral finish is the terroir speaking. The same aromatic vibration, the same energy is also noticeable in the Bouzeron 2023. This is an intense wine, fresh and concentrated which will require a few years before being drunk, between two and five years.
In the south of Rully and cooler, with a later harvest than for Rabourcé. Vinified in foudre. Certified biodynamic. Peppery citrus, rich and creamy and so fresh. Mouth-watering tension and purity, with a long finish. The oak is subtle but present. A light smokiness on the finish (touch of reduction?). 17 Julia Harding MW (JR).
