Coffret du Collectionneur:
Three iconic years in one box; 2005 - 2010 - 2015
Jancis Robinson described 2005 as "Bordeaux 's best vintage of the century so far. The 2005s were always chock full of everything - fruit, acidity, colour and tannin."
Decanter described 2010 as "A truly great vintage, optimally ripe but with firm acidity and tannins. The best wines will need eight years or more." (Perfect timing to start drinking, if you so wish!) But these collectors boxes are so pretty you will be tempted to keep them.
Stephen Spurrier, also of Decanter, remarked that 2010 was a "Modern Classic", and that it was even better than 2005.
And as for 2015, at Château Haut-Bailly, Veronique Sanders noted that in Pessac-Léognan the vintage progressed in distinct phases. ‘To the end of July, it was like 2005. Then it became more like 2009 and finally closer to 2010. However, in the final analysis, it ended up like no other vintage. To me it is utterly unique.’
Stephen Spurrier also noted that he saw "2015 as a very modern Bordeaux vintage. ‘It’s not like Bordeaux 10 years ago, when tannins could be hard as nails. In 2015, the fruit dominates the tannins and the acidity.’
All this adds up to a very delicious box of wine.
