2024, Domaine Paul Avril, CLOS DES PAPES, Blanc

$132

Crisp and intense white - a complex blend of Bourboulenc, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Picpoul and Roussanne. This is a lovely wine that has been outstanding in the last two vintages.

Bottled in February 2025, the 2024 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc spent a mere five months in stainless steel tanks on its fine lees. Ripe pear, yellow apple and a touch of honeysuckle rise up from the glass. Medium-bodied and elegant yet sufficiently concentrated, the 2024 is a wonderful white Clos des Papes, packing subtle phenolic grip on the sapid termination. This comes with secure aging potential. 93 Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous (2025).

Crafted from six different grape varieties in equal proportions, the 2024 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc is exquisite, wafting from the glass with aromas of flowers, herbs, almonds, pear and peach. Medium- to full-bodied, round and sappy, it's fleshy with a lively core of fruit, terrific mid-palate plenitude and a long, ethereal, somewhat chalky finish lifted by a beautiful bitterness and a saline aftertaste. 96 Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate (2025).
