A fresh pale lemon, with a beautiful bouquet, nothing exotic or heady, a perfect balance here, perfumed towards the back, apples with a wrapping of honeysuckle, along with a good natural acidity and a stony finish. A delicious, complex Corton-Charlemagne. Drink from 2029-2036. Tasted Nov 2024. **** 93-96 Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy.
Offering up notes of sweet citrus oil, white flowers and freshly baked bread, the 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and pure, with a sweet core of fruit, lively acids and chalky grip on the finish. 92-94 William Kelley, Wine Advocate.
The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has an enticing bouquet with lemon curd, fresh orange pith and candle-wax scents that blossom with aeration. Boasting wonderful balance and composure on the palate, this fans out beautifully. I commented that it reminded me of the CC from DRC, not knowing that theirs is located just above Bruno Clair's. Superb. 94-96 Neal Martin.
With his version of Corton-Charlemagne, Bruno and his sons show themselves to be masters of more than just the Côte de Nuits. The grapes are from a third of a hectare in En Charlemagne, just above the vines of Bondeau and DRC; it is the last vineyard in Aloxe. There is an astonishing purity of fruit with fabulous aromas of ripe pear and hazelnut. The texture is rich but not overly so, and there is enough acidity to drive this to a lingering finish. 95 Charles Curtis MW.
