2023 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot.

The 2023 L'Esprit de Chevalier is a really lovely second wine from Olivier Bernard and his team. It has a refined yet focused bouquet with black cherries, wild strawberries, touches of camphor and Provençal herbs, all delivered with fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins on the entry, but it immediately segues into a surprisingly structured and grippy mid-palate. Quite bold for an Esprit, with a dash of white pepper on the finish, don't be afraid to afford this a few months in the cellar.

The 2023 L'Esprit de Chevalier, with its somber, dark character, evokes aromas of pencil lead, dark wild berries, violet, mulberries and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and charming palate framed by a fleshy core of fruit, velvety tannins and an expansive, mouthwatering finish despite some oaky notes.

An excellent second wine with verve and red fruit ripeness. The tannins a bit tight and the length not as impressive as the grand vin, but this should be a good short term red before you crack open the first wine.
