2022, Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret, VOSNE-ROMANÉE, 1er Cru, 'En Orveaux', Magnum (1500ml)

Lovely 1er cru Vosne that sits high up - above Echezeaux (the lower section of Orveaux is classified grand cru) and hard up against the border of Chambolle-Musigny. Fine, fragrant, classic hillside Vosne. Mongeard-Mugneret has the largest holding in Orveaux.

1.78 for the total cru and here they have 1.08. Vines – this is north-south planted which helps catch the early morning sun in this later-ripening place – ‘but still a place that needs a bit more patience vs the lower-lying 1ers.’
Hmm – that’s a lovely and very inviting aromatic – a little crushed raspberry fruit in here – lovely! Supple and layered, there’s both power and delicacy – you won’t find too many labels of this 1er but here’s a simply excellent one – the barrel [influence] is already almost completely absorbed – already!
