Peter Maude Fine Wines

2020, Domaine Pierre-Morey, MEURSAULT, Village

$113

The 2020 Meursault is excellent, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, hazelnuts, white flowers and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and lively, with fine depth at the core, bright acids and a chalky finish, it's the usual blend of lieux-dits Les Forges, Les Pellans and Les Chaumes de Narvaux. 90-92 William Kelley, Wine Advocate.

A blend of three parcels, the 2020 Meursault Village was actually difficult to assess on the nose - too reduced at the moment. The palate is fresh and shows good weight, but I will reassess this once in bottle. Neal Martin, Vinous (2021).

From Pellands, Chaumes de Narvaux and Forges. More yellow to the colour this time and a good rich nose. Building steadily. There?s a very good bone structure to this wine, and though I cannot see all the fruit detail yet, it is very promising. Impressive finish. **** 90-93 Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy (2021).

Pretty, ripe and fresh aromas of hazelnut, acacia blossom and various white orchard fruit scents give way to racy, delicious and tension-filled middle weight flavours that conclude in a bone-dry if slightly attenuated finish that should flesh out with a few years of bottle aging. 88-91 Allen Meadows, Burghound (2022).
