2021, Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, VOLNAY, 1er Cru, 'Fremiets'

$222

Fremiets is a 1.57ha 1er cru sited on weathered soils of red clay and lying beneath Clos des Ducs. The proximity to Pommard is reflected in a more powerful, densely structured wine. Concentrated palate with sweet, ripe red berry fruit, abundantly fresh acidity and a long, luscious aftertaste. Fine-grained tannins with salinity on the finish adding further complexity. Showing very well but with a great future ahead. 94 Andy Howard MW, Decanter.

The 2021 Volnay Fremiet 1er Cru has a very pure and open bouquet, perfumed red cherry and wild strawberry fruit laced with wilted rose petals. Not powerful yet nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle but insistent grip, more structure than the Clos des Angles with a touch of white pepper towards the finish. Fine persistence. This is a Volnay to cherish over the next 15-20 years. 91-93 Neal Martin, Vinous.

The 2021 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiet opens in the glass with aromas of exotic spices, wild berries, orange zest and forest floor, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy palate underpinned by lively acids and powdery tannins. 89-91 William Kelley, Wine Advocate.
