From Mazoyères, with 80% whole bunch vinification. Plenty of energy but nearer the volatile threshold. A fine clean succulent fruit in a rich raspberry style, before a fresher finish again with the slightly volatile suggestion and some drier tannins. The 2021 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru includes 70% whole bunches. It offers co-mingling red and black fruit on the nose, with loam and touches of citrus fruit. Focused if just missing a little complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and just the right amount of dryness. Hints of dark chocolate interlace the dark berry fruit on the finish. Drink over the next 15 years. 91-93 Neal Martin.
Softly smoky aromas include those of fresh and ripe red cherry, newly turned earth and wisps of the sauvage. The very rich, even opulent and lush, medium-bodied flavours possess a lovely sense of vibrancy that carries over to the palate coating, dusty, firm and balanced finale. This could use better depth but that should reasonably occur with a few years of cellaring. 91-94 Allen Meadows, Burghound.
