Arriving end of July 2022.

We have put together a similar mix of excellent vintages (2020, 2018, 2016) of dry white Bordeaux from three very good sources.
These are often underrated, very good value and make fantastic drinking with their high proportions of Sauvignon Blanc - but not Sauvignon Blanc as we know it here. There is more restraint on the nose coupled with a richness of palate, while still retaining delicious freshness.
The selection was based on a tasting held at PMFW in-house Feb. 2022. These three were the clear favourites!

2x 2020, "G" de Guiraud, BORDEAUX Blanc

The dry white from Château Guiraud (Sauternes) - in the manner of R de Rieussec or Y de Yquem. 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 50% Sémillon.

Feb 2022 PMFW tasting notes: Appealing and vibrant tropical notes on the nose, juicy and saline, full mid-palate, mineral long finish. Elegant and easy to drink.
Richer in mouthfeel than some vintages of G de Guiraud, this has a lovely tang of lime juice and lemongrass and silky texture - enjoyable and with a twist on the finish. Drinking Window 2022 – 2027. 92/100 Jane Anson, Decanter

91/100 James Suckling

2x 2016, Château Puygueraud, Francs Côtes de Bordeaux Blanc Sec

A beautiful château in the Thienpont family stable - owners of Vieux Chateau Certan and Trolong-Mondot in nearby Pomerol and St. Emilion.
80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sauvignon Gris.

Feb 2022 PMFW tasting notes: Gun metal aromas, fruit forward on the attack, mid-palate minerality emerges. Pleasurable drinking. Peter Maude’s favourite of the day.
The 2016 Puygueraud Blanc is bright, crisp and intensely saline, with that classic touch of reduction that adds character and tension to the citrus, orchard fruit, sage and floral notes. This is very nicely done. The blend is 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sauvignon Gris. In 2016, the Blanc is absolutely delicious. Tasted three times. 91/100 Antonio Galloni

The 2016 Puygueraud Blanc is showing good tension from the entry, and offering notes of white peach, Asian pear and a seam of orange zest toward the finish. Fine. 88 Neal Martin.

Perfumed and then quite tight and fresh. Lots of green fruit. Tangy. Jancis Robinson.

2x 2018, Clos Floridene, GRAVES Blanc

A firm favourite of PMFW - from the family of the late Denis Dubourdieu. 51% Sauvignon Blanc, 49% Sémillon.

Feb 2022 PMFW tasting notes: Bright pear aromas, a little oak present, mineral and chiselled on the palate. Perfectly balanced! This wine has a lot of finesse.

The 2018 Clos Floridène Blanc is an absolute delight to taste. Bright and airy, with effusive aromatics, the 2018 is just gorgeous. Orchard fruit, lemon oil, mint, sage and a hint of nutmeg are some of the many notes that grace this polished, refined white from the Dubourdieu family. The 2018 has come together nicely since I last tasted it. 90/100 Antonio Galloni

The Clos Floridene 2018 Blanc gives tropical scents of green guava, mango and pineapple with touches of honeysuckle and fresh ginger. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers fantastic freshness and mineral-tinged citrus layers, finishing long and clean. 89-91/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Denis Dubourdieu lives on in this wine.
Really nicely balanced and appetising and juicy for current drinking. That lanolin note of oaked Bordeaux Sémillon with a serious finish. Not a blockbuster but with juicy green-fruit notes and a luxurious overlay of light oaking. Satin texture. Very Good Value. Jancis Robinson.
