2021, La Chablisienne, CHABLIS, 'Les Vénérables'
The 2021 Chablis Les Vénérables lacks some fruit intensity on the nose, as you might expect from this challenging growing season. The palate has a touch of bell pepper on the entry, balanced, yet the finish feels undernourished. Not bad, perfectly drinkable, though this cuvée relishes warmer seasons. 85 Neal Martin, Vinous (2023).
A ripe but overtly fresh nose combines notes of mineral reduction, pear, apple, citrus and iodine. There is excellent richness and concentration to the palate coating medium-bodied flavours that culminate in an attractively lingering finish that isn't quite as dry but is better-balanced. This wine consistently ages well, and the 2021 version should be no exception. 88-91 Burghound (2022).
