Another of the (would-be) grand crus - Rugiens sits just a bit higher up on the Volnay side.
Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, exotic spices, blood orange and loamy soil, the 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens is medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with terrific concentration, velvety tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, perfumed finish. Like the Epenots, it's the finest young Rugiens I've tasted at this address, and I can't wait to revisit it from bottle.
