Peter Maude Fine Wines

2017, Domaine Yvon Clerget, POMMARD, 1er Cru, 'Rugiens'

$162
Fine bright mid red, quite a rugged nose, then surprisingly juicy on the palate, with an attractive managed, balanced finish. This is a very good wine.
*** 91/100 Jasper Morris, MW.

Brooding earthy and somber red and dark berry aromas that are laced with notes of spice and floral hints. There is excellent drive and delineation to the powerful and focused flavors that deliver impressively good length on the built-to-age and youthfully austere finale. While this won't wow you with its density, the flavour authority is excellent and I very much like the balance. Sweet spot. 93/100 Burghound.

Aromas of spicy plums, red berries, dark chocolate and toasty new oak introduce the 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens, a medium to full-bodied wine with a broad shouldered but very fine-grained chassis of structuring tannins that frame a promising core of fruit. One of the longer-haul prospects in the cellar. 90-93/100 William Kelley.
