2017, Domaine Nicolas Perrault, MARANGES, 1er Cru, 'Clos Roussots'

$78

A wine of brooding power and intensity, the 2017 Maranges Les Clos Roussots 1er Cru has much to offer, once it comes together. All of the elements are present for that to happen, but the 2017 needs time. Leather, smoke and tobacco all add layers of nuance to a core of dark Pinot fruit. I really like the density and resonance here. Clay-rich soils confer notable breadth and dimension. 89-91 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.

Seemingly a little less texturally lavish than the Loyères that preceded it, I suspect Perrault's 2017 Maranges 1er Cru Les Clos Roussots is in fact simply a little closed after its recent bottling. Revealing scents of anise, dried flowers and Griotte cherries, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and nicely concentrated, but it seems to demand a few years' patience. 91+ William Kelley, Wine Advocate.
