2017, Domaine Chandon de Briailles, PERNAND-VERGELESSES, 1er Cru, 'Les Vergelesses'

An earthy and distinctly gamy nose of forest floor, red pinot and cassis aromas gives way to delicious, vibrant and sleekly textured medium-bodied flavours that possess better mid-palate density, all wrapped in a focused, powerful and rustic finale. 90/100 Burghound.

The 2017 Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vergelesses 1er Cru actually comes from the Bas-Vergelesse, a lieu-dit on iron-rich clay. It offers attractive cranberry and strawberry aromas that unfold in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is quite steely and correct, displaying grippy tannin, well-judged acidity and a tang of spice toward the finish. 90-92/100 Neal Martin, Vinous.
