2017, Domaine Chandon de Briailles, CORTON, Grand Cru, 'Clos du Roi'

One new barrel in the four. It is no deeper in colour than most of the others, but there is a little more power to the nose. Still some alpine strawberry touches. It offers force and elegance together, thinks Claude. Certainly, there is a velvet red carpet on the limestone paving. **** 93/100 Jasper Morris, MW.

The 2017 Corton Clos-du-Roi Grand Cru comes from a parcel located on its highest contours. It has the most accomplished aromatics of the domaine’s Grand Crus, featuring shimmering cranberry and raspberry scents, sous-bois and tea leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity. The seductive, smooth finish bulges with red fruit. Superb. 91-93/100 Neal Martin, Vinous.

Overtly spicy and markedly floral-scented nose of red berries and newly turned earth, all of which is trimmed in a touch of wood. The sleek, intense and large-scaled flavors brim with minerality that carries over to the muscular finish. This is impressive and should prove to be a fine Clos du Roi. 92/100 Burghound.
