Champagne Jacques Selosse
Anselme Selosse has been described as 'The King of Bubbles' and is well known for his dynamic achievements and charisma in the world of Champagne. His attention to detail is famous and he makes exquisit and rare cuvees from some of the lowest yielding vines in Champagne. The 15 hectares of vines are farmed biodynamically.
Founded by Jacques Selosse in 1950, their first vintage was bottled in 1960. Anselme took over from his father Jacques in 1980 after studying at the Lycée viticole de Beaune. He was one of the first winemakers to apply the winemaking techniques of white Burgundy to Champagne; unlike other producers he ferments and ages the wine in oak, and with the intensity of the fruit from low yields the result is a massive and highly complex and beautifully balanced style. In 1994 Anselme was named best French Winemaker by Gault Millau.
The tiny production (1/550th that of Moet) reflects the unique quality of the House and the demand world-wide far outstrips supply. Peter Maude Fines Wines is proud to have a very limited allocation annually.
